Home building Simplified
Tips and Advice For anyone working with a contractor to build a custom home. You can't go wrong at $7!

Are you trading links correctly?
Do you have a link to and from the people who help you do your job?
Marte Cliff, copywriterFor instance, if you work with a builder, are your sites linked?

If you have home inspectors, staging experts, title companies, mortgage lenders, landscapers, and cleaning services you depend on, are you linked to them?

At least some of your customers and clients would like advice and direction, so if you know good vendors, you'll be doing them a service while helping yourself.

I know, all Realtors are gun-shy about recommending outside resources. Everyone is afraid that when they make a recommendation things will go wrong and they'll be blamed.

It's kind of like telling your best friend about the fantastic dinner you had at a new restaurant -- and having her experience turn out just the opposite.

But there is a safety net for that. List more than one. And at the top of your resource page, include a statement that acts as a disclaimer. Say something like: "The following vendors are people I have used in the past, or people my clients have been happy with."

Of course, you want a link back from them in return, because those incoming links will boost your generic search engine rating.

The Actual Link Copy Counts Too!
Forget about "click here."

You probably know that as a web copywriter I devour all the new information I get to help me do a better job for my clients. Well, recently I read a little nugget that I hadn't thought about before.

The links coming in to your site should be coming from your keywords, not from your name or a "click here" link.

For instance, if you sell real estate in Houston, the link should be on the words "Houston homes for sale." Do a little keyword research and choose words and phrases that will draw the people you want. You already know that you need to use those words in your site copy and title tags -- now use them in your incoming links as well.

*Note: When you add your reciprocal links, be sure to ask those vendors which keywords they'd like you to use!

contractor Get More Clients with Getting Clients.

If you don't have your copy yet, be sure to order Getting Clients before the summer selling season is in full swing and your competitors beat you to those motivated buyers and sellers.

Read all about it at: marte-cliff.com. At $19.95 it may be the best investment you make in your career all year.

By the way... if you want to build your business through Referrals, and if you need more testimonials on your web site and in your promotions, be sure to check out How to Get Referrals and Testimonials. It will be $7 well spent!

And... If some of those vendors you use are people you'd like to help, forward this email to them because the same link strategy works both ways. Then tell them they need to grab a copy of How to Attract Clients to your Service Business It's similar to Getting Clients, but not industry specific. At $7, it's sure to give them a great return on investment.

Sometimes I get frustrated -- knowing that there are good people, giving good service, but still struggling because they simply don't know how to reach their target audience.

Sometimes I itch to get in and re-write their ads or prod them into asking their good customers for referrals... But I can't reach everyone who needs the help. That's why I wrote the ebooks. With your help, at least a few more good people will earn the living they deserve.

I'd be glad to hear what you think of this new format. So send me an email at writer@marte-cliff.com or head on over to mymarketing blog and leave a comment. I'm open to suggestions, too!

Yours for success,

Marte
